DESIGNS WITH A BOURBON FLAIR TO DRESS DERBY GOERS
CINCINNATI, OH – April 10, 2019 – Kentucky Derby patrons looking to express their love of all things bourbon can now select from a new line of bourbon-themed ties and socks from Bourbon Cousins™, the designers of the silk for the Woodford Reserve $1000 Mint Julep Cup Derby initiative announced today.
“We really wanted to give bourbon-loving Derby goers accessories that would resonate with them,” said Pam Houston, a Louisville native and co-founder of the Cincinnati-based pattern design firm Bourbon Cousins™. “And nothing is more synonymous with the Kentucky Derby than the traditional mint julep and its signature Kentucky bourbon.”
For the second consecutive year, a silk fabric custom-designed by Houston and first cousin Claudia Sandman has been selected for the Woodford Reserve $1000 Mint Julep Cup Derby initiative.
Bourbon Cousins™ offers nine originally-designed neckties and bow ties featuring familiar bottles shapes and the iconic copper pot still in a variety of colors. In addition, men can complement their wardrobe by adding a pair of dress socks from the company’s Made-in-the-USA dress sock collection which includes five bourbon-themed designs in at least two color options each.
“Bourbon lovers are looking for ways to show their passion for America’s Native Spirit,” said Houston. “We want to give them a ‘neat’ way to express their love of bourbon and have fun with it at the Derby and beyond.”

Bourbon Women Association members, Houston and Sandman emerged on the bourbon scene in 2018 when the start-up’s custom silk design was used in the 2018 Woodford Reserve $1000 Mint Julep Cup sale. The opportunity came just months after the two launched their pattern design & product development studio in January 2018.
